First, I would like to explain a little bit what happened with the Primfeed Community Meetings, and why there wasn’t one for the last 2 months. My idea when I started to work on the videos was that I was super excited to bring the videos at the meeting! Though, some challenges got in the way and eventually, I was late to be in time for the meeting. And… that was it for the last two months.
The videos were really challenging to do, because they use a separate server to process your videos, and they include a queue system to prevent overloading the server and make it crash. Then there was the issue of how to host the videos, how to deliver them, updating the whole systems to support the videos, etc. That explained the delay of the videos and the missing meetings.
It was an error on my part to wait for the videos to be ready to hold the meetings, and I will not be redoing that. As promised, a meeting once a month will be held.
Summary of Main Topics
- Videos are live! Over 2,500 videos have been posted since launch. Users have reported sound level issues, and a fix is in progress.
- Public Profile Indexing: Profiles are now appearing in Google search results if users decide to open their profile. It improves discoverability and external traffic for Primfeed, resulting in, I believe, higher interactions on the platform. It enables embedded content and previews in external social media, including Discord.
- Comments update: Comments will soon be viewable directly within the feed, allowing for faster engagement and more fluid discussions.
- Mobile Improvements: Enhanced mobile experience is in development. An installable web app is already available for users wanting a more app-like experience. The mobile version will soon catch up with the missing features from the desktop.
- Settings Page: Managing your block list will soon be available in the settings page.
- AI & Moderation: As of right now, altered pictures by AI are forbidden from the Public Gallery, but I’m looking into ways to allow it under conditions/tagging.
What’s Next on Primfeed
- Search and Hashtags: They will soon be available. They are the next big feature, allowing for more discoverability and search for content in posts.
- Albums / Galleries feature: Once the search is completed, I will be working on the albums and galleries for you to organize your pictures as you like.
- Groups / Communities: Planned feature. A dedicated community meeting will be focused on this, defining its structure and what you need. I don’t want to copy what the other websites offer, I want to create something for Second Life needs.
- Gallery Scroll Arrows: The possibility to browse posts with arrows instead of having to click, browse, and close to browse posts will be implemented.
- Contact Buttons for Profiles: A button will be implemented for users to click to access the Second Life profile. It will probably be under a setting, but enabled by default.
- Custom Post Layout: Someone asked if it would be possible to have the pictures before the text, and it’s funny because it was something I wondered when I worked on Primfeed. It won’t be the case by default, but a setting will probably appear for this.
- Event Categories: Categories will be added to the Events section, to filter events you are the most interested in.
- Community Pages: As of right now, communities can create pages with EasyBloggers even if it’s called stores. Later on, a change will be done for the interface to use something else than the store word.
Answers to Questions
- Messenger System: Not currently in development, I don’t see it as a priority just yet. I like the idea of people using Second Life to talk to each other, and the incoming button to go on Second Life residents’ profiles will help.
- 300 Follows Daily Limit: No changes planned. The limit is in place to prevent spam and abuse.
- WIP Photos: Work-in-progress images are currently considered commercial because in the majority of cases, it’s a WIP for a product that will be sold by a store. But maybe at some point we will allow artistic and commercial?
- Events Duration Limit: Max event listing duration is 12 hours to avoid misuse. I don’t have any plan to allow more than 12-hour events, as of right now. Live events are at the top. Something to keep in mind, but there is probably something better to do with the layout of the events section.
- Real App: No native app planned; the installable web app is considered sufficient for mobile use. To install Primfeed as an app, follow the instructions.
- API Access: It’s very niche and not planned for 2025.
- Photo Crop Bug on Mobile: Reported issue under investigation by the dev team.
- AI content in the Public Gallery: As of right now, AI content is only allowed in the Public Gallery if it’s commercial content. Following the poll and the feedback from this community meeting, there is maybe something better to do. More will follow in May.
Statistics
- Weekly Active Residents: Grew from 9,400 in December to 10,900.
- Weekly Visitors: Approximately 13,000.
- Mobile Usage: 13% of weekly users.
- Videos Posted: 2,500+ since the launch.
