Community Meeting #7

Primfeed Community Meetings are monthly meetings where people discuss around the social media. Read the summary for this community meeting.

Summary of Main Topics

  • Infrastructure Migration Complete: Primfeed switched to new infrastructure on September 9th, moving from one shared server to 4 dedicated servers.
  • Upload Issues Resolved: September 10th update fixed major upload problems by switching from single large requests to chunked uploads (6-7MB pieces)
  • Performance Improvements: Users immediately noticed faster page loads, no more black pages or timeouts
  • Scalability Achieved: The new infrastructure allows adding servers as needed without migration if more power is needed with the constant growth

What’s Next on Primfeed

  • Search Feature: ElasticSearch is installed and running with minimal search working; release possible in September with no filters yet
  • Hashtags: Still in progress, will be searchable within post text (not separate tag fields)
  • Albums: Coming after search is released; will allow sorting pictures into folders
  • Communities/Groups: Planned as the third major feature after albums; will have dedicated meeting for feedback
  • Profile Reporting: Planned feature to report entire profiles
  • Extended Profile Descriptions: The plan is to have an increase to 512 characters planned with collapsible view
  • Notification Filters: Suggested and considered a great idea for future implementation

Answers to Questions

  • Messaging System: Not a priority; many messaging platforms already exist
